Asymmetry is very popular in interior design right now. Unlike symmetry, which has been very
popular in interiors previously, asymmetry can make a space feel playful,
casual, and overall more interesting. However, if not used right, asymmetry can
make a space feel messy and out of balance, that is why it is important when
using asymmetry in interior design to keep the visual weight on both sides of
the room even. The visual weight
of an object is how heavy an objects looks to us. If the visual weight on both sides don’t line up, there is no
need to worry. The visual weight of an object can be altered in many different
ways. In my opinion, the three
easiest ways to make an object feel heavier are: to alter the position of it
because the farther away an object is from the center of the room or the focal
point, the heavier it will seem, to change the orientation of the object because
objects that face diagonally seem to weigh more, and to change the color of the
object, because the darker that the color is, the more that it will seem to
weigh.
